Can CFO’s add value to the business they support if their Finance team doesn’t have the value adding skill set?

June 25, 2013 Stuart Bilbrough

One would expect that it would be tough. My experience in smaller organisations with smaller Finance teams is that without a level of change in the team, the task will fall on the CFO who will find themselves locked to their desk doing spread sheeting and process improvement, and spending too much time on transactional processing, month-end reports and so on.

This in turn will prevent them from becoming more strategic and adding value to the business they support. The book Bean Soup – Beyond Bean Counting – Steps for Lifting a Finance Function Skill Set Towards ‘Adding Value’ provides a framework of interconnected training sessions that provide the stepping stones for lifting a Finance function skill set towards adding value and effectively supporting the CFO and business.
